Bringing people together through music

Generation Groove is a vibrant community concert band based in Haxby, York. We bring together musicians of all ages and abilities to share the joy of live music.

Formed in 2002 and now a registered charity (No. 1214993), we perform across Yorkshire and beyond at concerts, community events and stately homes.

Led by Principal Musical Director Diane Beal, a graduate of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, the band combines musical excellence with a strong sense of community.

Our vision

We believe in an inclusive community where everyone, whatever their age or experience, can join in the joy of music.

Our mission

We bring people together through music, creating a fun, friendly and supportive environment where musicians can:

  • develop their skills

  • build confidence

  • form lasting friendships

  • share the joy of music with our community

What we do

We provide opportunities for musicians at every level, from complete beginners to experienced players. Across our four bands, we offer a clear pathway to learn, develop and perform.

We rehearse weekly at Haxby Memorial Hall and perform regularly throughout the year.

Our story

Generation Groove began in August 2002 with just six players under the name Cottage Harmony. Within months, the band had grown rapidly, bringing together musicians from across the local community.

Today, we are a thriving organisation with over 80 members and four bands, continuing to grow and evolve while staying true to our founding spirit — making music accessible, inclusive and enjoyable for all.

A community charity

Becoming a registered charity in 2025 marked an exciting new chapter for Generation Groove. It allows us to:

  • expand opportunities for children and young people

  • break down barriers to learning music

  • strengthen our role in the local community

Looking ahead

We’re currently raising funds to launch and run a new junior band, creating opportunities for children aged 7+ to experience music in a fun and supportive environment.
