Generation Groove has four bands, offering a clear and supportive pathway for musicians of all ages and abilities — from complete beginners to experienced performers.

Whether you’re just starting out or looking for a new musical challenge, there’s a place for you.

Our Academy Band is the starting point for new players.

It’s designed for those who are new to their instrument and want to build confidence playing as part of a group.

You’ll learn the fundamentals of reading music, playing together, and developing your sound — all in a relaxed and supportive environment.

New Generation is for players who have moved beyond the beginner stage and are developing their skills.

Here, you’ll start to explore a wider range of music, improve your technique, and gain confidence playing in an ensemble.

This is our intermediate band, for musicians who are ready for more challenge.

We focus on ensemble playing, dynamics and musical expression, with a lively and varied repertoire.

This band performs regularly at community events, concerts and outdoor performances.

Our senior band brings together experienced musicians performing to a high standard.

We play a diverse and exciting repertoire, from film music and jazz to classical and contemporary arrangements.

The band performs regularly across York and beyond, representing Generation Groove at concerts, events and special occasions.

Our bands are connected, with players moving between them as their confidence and skills grow.

We support every member on their musical journey — whether that’s taking your first steps or continuing to develop as an experienced player.

Rehearsals take place weekly at Haxby Memorial Hall:

• Academy Band – Wednesday 6:30 to 7:30 pm

• New Generation – Thursday 5:30 to 6:15 pm

• Getting in the Groove – Thursday 6:30 to 7:30 pm

• Generation Groove – Thursday 7:45 to 9:45 pm
