War memorial at ORO Het Rijtven restored during performance by British concert band
The vandalized war memorial at ORO Het Rijtven in Deurne was reinstalled on Thursday. The colorful airplane, created by ArtORO clients, has now been made vandal-proof thanks to a steel beam mounted inside. The artwork returned from repairs just in time for the visit by the Generation Groove wind orchestra from York, UK.
The group includes 66-year-old Martin Leach, who attended the memorial's unveiling two years ago as a surviving relative. His great-uncle, Jack Ward, was the navigator of the bomber that crashed near the current ORO site during World War II, losing his life in the process.
